SHAHMIR SUEILAN
Some journeys are written long before they are understood. Shahmir’s began quietly in 2009, as part of the supporting staff at Liza Chan & Co, where the rhythm of files, documents and court routines became his first classroom. Those early years revealed to him that law is not merely argued, but observed, absorbed and lived. Her Ladyship Liza Chan (as she then was) later offered him a scholarship to pursue his studies at UiTM, a gesture that changed the direction of his life and anchored his path in the profession.
Guided closely by her mentorship, Shahmir learned the textures of general litigation, the structure of conveyancing and the discipline required to prepare and vet corporate agreements. These foundations shaped a practice built on patience, careful thought and a deep respect for detail.
As his career evolved, Shahmir devoted himself to Civil and Criminal Litigation. Equipped with a Bachelor of Legal Studies, an LLB and a Postgraduate Diploma in Syariah Law and Practice, supported further by a Diploma in Writing, he approaches each matter with clarity of reasoning and refined advocacy. His work includes securing acquittals in sensitive sexual offence matters, guiding clients through demanding mitigation stages and handling a broad spectrum of criminal cases under the Penal Code as well as matters involving the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission.
In the civil arena, he has secured outcomes exceeding RM4 million for clients, tackled statutory interpretation issues and managed disputes across commercial, personal and family contexts.
Shahmir’s experience extends into conveyancing, particularly in sale and purchase transactions where precision and timing often shape the confidence of a deal.
His work has also been recorded in reported decisions including Danny Foo Sek Han and Others v KL Eco City Sdn Bhd and Another [2023] MLJU 1148 and Amsteel Mills Sdn Bhd v Muhammad Anuwar bin Buang [2022] MLJU 3621.
Beyond the courtroom and the documents that define it, Shahmir finds balance on the golf course and beneath the surface of the sea. Both pursuits remind him that steady focus and quiet discipline can guide a person through demanding terrain, whether on land or under water.
